I have been catching up with Mark McCleary on his way through to Nashville, Katherine Lee and Bowie Snodgrass. Mark and I went to see Susan his old flat mate from Belfast play in a small club in Lower Eastside. She had a great voice and songs, so I will blog about it later. Well I have just said goodbye to Mark and Katherine as they go on various flights, and now taking in arts, much reading in various Cafe’s, and from tomorrow begin work on the book before leaving this great city again to head back to the UK. I always find this city and San Fran so healing!! It is just bursting with creative energy. So tonight I am going to a classical concert and tomorrow a party with some friends. So see you all soon. See Mark’s blog for his experiences of New York – profound as ever. Aaron – it feels weird being here without you. Many good memories have coming back – and they like my English Accent – it was mentioned as being sexy – I could so easily live here!!!

However – it is also a sad parting – as Aaron leaves us to prepare for moving to New York via a stint in Northern Ireland. He is coming back for one weekend before he goes in January.

So yet another core person to Moot spreads their wings. Aaron has been a really important member of Moot for sometime, and personally – has been a great friend and tower of support. It has been hard saying goodbye to so many people, and Aaron was a particularly special person……

I hope he comes back, there is a good chance he could in a year or so, but this photo – of which I am showing a bit for blackmail purposes, will be totally revealed to the world if he does not return. Nothing more needs to be said!! I am saying no more or he will kill me! Aaron is seeking sponsorship to spend a year in the States – and will get involved with our sister group ‘transmission’.

So so long Aaron, we miss you already – and look after yourself!!

Sorry to say that there is bad news. Lambeth Council has decided to appeal against the decision of the independent tribunal about Samuel’s right to attend his local school. In so doing, the Council is refusing to abide by the decision. Many of us feel that this is an outrage, and again let down Samuel and his family, and in particular puts pressure on his parents.

Whilst they work out what this all means, and how we should respond, a number of us are thinking that this is just unacceptable – that a body that is supposed to represent the people is effectively excluding a child on account of his physical disability.

The Moot Community is fully behind Samuel, and we will be seeking to support them once what is happening is established. To begin with, if you live in Lambeth, can you make sure I know so that if we need to commence a letter writing campaign, then we can draw on people in the same area.

More to follow.

Money raised goes to support Santiago’s medical treatment fund. Additionally if wanted, people can also use the swimming pool,
Jacuzzi and sauna in that period as part of the facilities.

He said a lot of good stuff – but one thing struck me – was some of his reflections on church history – when he said – that the church had to now had two building blocks in understanding forms of Christian ministry – the first is contextual – an engaging with a specific people in a particular locality – the parish, circuit and diocese reflect this – ministry to the local. While the other – the way of the friars and monastics – was not to the local in terms of inculturation – often some way away – so that people encountered this by pilgrimage.

Now reflecting on this when considering Moot – I am struck that up to now – our strategy of engagement through the website and blog – and dekhomai and pub spirituality – has been an expectation of people finding us through networks – and then coming to us at various stages of faith and spirituality through a form of pilgrimage – whether they new it or not. Our strategy to this point – and I would suggest for many of the emerging church – has been based on network where we offer a hub in westminster and other places – to engage in alt worship and its development into the emerging church – encounter through pilgrimage.
What I find interesting – is that we have recently talked again about the need for doing things in the local – based on an incultration strategy. That actually what I think we are saying – is the need for both hand – both pilrimage based – for people on a spiritual quest, and for engagement in the local – through an enculturation approach. If this is the case, then we need to consider this in the shape of Moot’s development in ministry and mission.
Martyn also said – he is a regular viewer of this blog – so welcome Martyn if you are reading this – and do leave your comments, as we could do with all the help we can get!
