Could you sponsor the HOST Project?

The Dream: We’re here for you

As a Christian community, Moot is animated by a passion to serve the people of the City of London, in all their rich diversity and complexity, with genuine respect for difference, in no-strings-attached, needs-based kind of way.

Many Londoners have never been part of a church and distrust Christians and church buildings – often with very good reason. Many are members of other faith traditions, or none, and a significant number who have been church attendees in the past are now utterly disenchanted with it.

The Lounge Project is not a crude attempt to trick outsiders into the church; through it we will seek to show that Christians care about more than just themselves and our own enrichment. As a space run by our community for others, the medium of the Lounge Project will seek to restore the traditionally “private” space of our church building to its true vocation as welcoming hub for the local community.

If your need is for space to take time out of the busyness of your day, it will not only provide a great coffee shop experience, but be a place to explore wellbeing through various avenues. Through the Lounge Project, busy city workers will be able to “get centred” through silent meditation groups, through referral to professional associate counselors, psychotherapists, and spiritual directors, and through Christian spirituality events.

Development and Sponsorship

The Lounge Project will grow in three stages:

Phase one has been a massive success, enabling many to take time out in the church with a hot drink, and some have joined a meditation group as result. The feedback we get is that the space has given them the opportunity to find peace and clarity of mind again. This phase built on the facilities of the existing kitchenette, a small but comfortable seating area, and a self-service coffee and tea bar.

Phase two will feature an expanded seating area and a higher quality self-service coffee and tea bar, including a range of light snacks; free wireless Internet will be available. We are seeking more staff (voluntary and paid) for this phase also, enabling us to facilitate more meditation and prayer events.

Phase three will have seating for 50 people, and a professional, fully staffed coffee and tea bar, with a larger range of snacks and pastries. This phase will transform the area at the back of the church into an attractive, comfortable and relaxing space, which will serve as the venue for many artistic, wellbeing-oriented, and spiritual events.
