Revealing the God-Lie of the Market

For those who are interested, I have posted an item on the above subject reflecting on the credit crunch and some other observations of the free market system. Thought people may be interested before we move to the middle of it, next week. Click here to read

I appreciate that I am being provocative, so hopefully it will create a good comment conversation.

Interesting piece Ian! One of the scariest things is the way the free market ideology (idolatry?) has been forced on the countries of the Global South for decades, under the guise of “helping” these countries to “reform” and “develop”… In return for loans, or restructuring debts, these countries have to introduce policies along the free market lines, otherwise they’re cut adrift and left without financial resources. At Jubilee Debt Campaign we’ve been working with civil society groups in the South to highlight alternative ways of doing finance. The statements about the current crisis, signed by thousands of such groups, is at http://www.choike.org/bw2/.Also you can sign a petition to Gordon Brown against Global Greed at http://www.jubileedebtcampaign.org.uk/greed and finally I’ve written a short briefing on the similarities and differences between the credit crunch and the debt crisis (about $2 trillion of political will…) at http://www.jubileedebtcampaign.org.uk/crunch .Would be good to continue the conversation!
